Good News Tuesday: Random acts of kindness

There is so much negative news out there ("if it bleeds, it leads"), some of us have chosen to stop reading/watching the news entirely.

I'd like to help change that.

Every Tuesday I will highlight an article I find that focuses on GOOD news.

Spread the word.

This week's entry comes from Boston.com, courtesy of The Associated Press.
Kindness encouraged in eastern Maine
People in Maine’s easternmost county are being urged to think positive and be especially kind
as the county celebrates what’s been proclaimed as Positively Kind Week.
Washington County commissioners last month signed a proclamation declaring this week, from Sunday through Saturday, as Positively Kind Week, encouraging agencies, businesses, religious organizations and people to kick their kindness levels up a notch.

Organizers say the week will culminate next Saturday with a “kindness explosion’’ at Washington County Community College in Calais.

There, participants will take to the streets of Calais to deliver random acts of kindness while holding various craft-related kindness activities, a fundraiser for juvenile diabetes research and be-kind-to-yourself workshops.

I love this idea of delivering random acts of kindness and welcome us all to do so, on an ongoing basis.

Here are some examples:
  • Allow someone with less groceries in front of you at the checkout line
  • Pay the toll for the car behind you
  • Compliment a friend/co-worker/complete stranger on anything (clothes, hair, perfume, shoes, car, etc.)
  • Hold the door open for anyone who needs a hand (stroller-pushers, Fed Ex delivery person, etc.
  • Allow that driver no one is acknowledging to turn/merge/park, etc.

Here's the part where you share about any random act of kindness you've experienced, either on the receiving or giving end. Let's read them in the comments, and spread the love.
